[origin: WO03060907A1] The invention relates to a system and a method for playback of copying- and use-protected acoustic and image media and the data content thereof, whereby the data content of the electronic media is encoded such that the complete playback or representation thereof cannot occur without carrying out cryptographic processes. According to the invention, the above is achieved, whereby a playback unit decodes and transfers the data contents of acoustic and image media, which are provided in a completely- or partially-encoded or encrypted form, from the digital into the analogue domain, for replay in such a manner that the data content of the electronic acoustic and image media never exists in the form of a decoded digital data stream which can be copied, by means of one or several melody codes for decoding the data content, which are transmitted to the playback unit along a secure path from an authentic source.
