[origin: WO2007031341A1] The invention relates to a method for controlling heater plugs in a diesel engine by modifying an effective electric voltage applied to said plugs from an initial to final value thereof, which is determined by an engine control device at the end of a cold phase and is less than the initial voltage value, wherein the voltage increase, i.e. the voltage difference between the effective electric voltage applied to the plugs at the cold phase and the final value is gradually reduced from a maximum value to zero. According to the invention, the effective electric voltage is raised at the cold phase during a predetermined period of time, which is defined by a time required for attaining a preselected number of motor revolutions.
