[origin: WO2007003336A1] Disclosed are a method and a device for placing flat objects such as mailings from a first top position into a bottom tray which moves relative to said position in at least one direction of travel. The flat object is accommodated by means of an intermediate element before being transferred into the tray, the bottom of said intermediate element being horizontal or inclined relative to the direction of travel. In order to transfer the flat object to the tray, a conveying means of the bottom is driven in such a way that the side and a front edge of the transferred flat object land on a supporting plane or on or near a front wall of the tray, front being in relation to the direction of transfer. The transfer or placement of mailings between tracks of trays is thus substantially optimized.
