[origin: EP1900668A2] The device (10) has an upper belt conveyor (4.1) and a lower belt conveyor (3.1), where a sheet is conveyed against a stop (5.1) between the conveyors, and the conveyors contact only in an entering area (A) and a discharging area (B) of a folding unit. The upper belt conveyor is detached from the lower belt conveyor outside of the entering area and the discharging area of the folding unit. A press roll is effectively positioned at a rear edge of the sheet depending on a format of the sheet, when the sheet is fitted at the stop with its front edge.
