[origin: WO2006110577A2] The use of FRIL family proteins to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines is disclosed. The FRIL proteins can be used in methods of treatment for inflammatory diseases that are characterized by undesirable levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and in the manufacture of medicaments for the treatment of such diseases. The inflammatory diseases that can be treated by FRIL proteins include, without limitation, autoimmune disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancers. In addition, the FRIL proteins of the invention can be used as an adjunct therapy to increase tolerance in patients undergoing transplantation.
