[origin: EP1902995A2] The mechanism has a electronically commutated and brushless permanent-field synchronous motor (10) comprising a shaft (11) for generating a driving force, where the motor is mounted such that the shaft is aligned perpendicular to an opening and closing direction (7) of a sliding and/or elevator door. A belt or chain is guided in the opening and closing direction for transmitting the driving force to a door leaf. An angular encoder e.g. single-turn encoder, generates an angle signal proportional to angle of rotation of the motor, and is arranged coaxially to the shaft.
