Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007009859A1] There currently exists a plurality of DRM systems on the market, each with its own rights expression language (REL). This is problematic in that, when an electronic data object is exported from the first DRM system to a second DRM system, translation errors are generated, which can cause the irretrievable loss of individual rights granted by the copyright holder. The aim of the invention is to provide a method for exporting rights to use to electronic data objects, which will ensure interoperability between different DRM systems. To this end, the original rights to use that can be associated with the electronic data object are exported from the data source to the data sink. In this way, the original licence is advantageously kept when the rights to use are exported from a DRM system to another DRM system, such that none of the rights granted by the copyright holder are irretrievably lost.
