Die Erfindung betrifft ein Gargerät mit einem Garraum (2), welcher durch ein Garraumgehäuse (31, 32, 33) begrenzt ist, das zumindest einen Dampfaustrittsbereich (8, 9) aufweist, und einer Dampferzeugungsvorrichtung (5) zur Erzeugung von Dampf (6) für den Garraum (2), und einem außerhalb des Garraums (2) beabstandet zu dem Dampfaustrittsbereich (9) angeordneten Dampfdetektionselement (11), welches zur Detektion einer durch den Dampfaustrittsbereich (9) austretenden Dampfströmung (14, 14') ausgebildet ist, wobei die Dampferzeugungsvorrichtung (5) so ausgebildet ist, dass abhängig von dem Detektieren der Dampfströmung (14, 14') durch das Dampfdetektionselement (11) die Erzeugung des Dampfs (6) einstellbar ist.
