Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2427113A] An ultraviolet (UV) disinfecting unit cleanses items (e.g. electronic equipment, hospital beds) by deactivating viruses or other organisms containing DNA or RNA. The unit comprises a light-tight chamber 12 in which the item to be cleansed is placed, and the chamber 12 has a plurality of UV light sources 40 to expose the item to UV light. The chamber 12 is configured to minimise shadowing of an hem by the arrangement of UV lamps 40 and reflector panels 38 mounted to the interior walls 34 of the chamber. When the door (14, figure 1) of the chamber is open, activation of the UV light is prevented. A user interface (23, figure 1) is provided on the exterior of the unit to indicate operability of the light sources, length of exposure etc.
