[origin: WO2006127931A2] The invention provides a catheter and method of making the same including an outer tubular member having a length, an outer surface, an inner surface and a lumen therein. The catheter also includes an inner tubular member having an outer surface, an inner surface and a lumen therein, at least a length of the inner lumen is disposed in the lumen of the outer tubular member. The catheter also includes a support member biasing a portion of the outer surface of the inner tubular member against a portion of the inner surface of the outer tubular member. The method of the invention includes providing a first tubular member and a second tubular member, arranging the first tubular member in contact with the second tubular member to define a contact area therebetween and joining the first and second tubular members at the contact area by irradiating them to define a fusion area having an intensity gradient.
