[origin: EP1911363A1] The sole has a large area footbed (11) and a large area sole layer (12) which contacts the ground in the ball (15) and heel area (16). A supporting layer (13) between the footbed and sole layer lifts the foot bed from the sole in the heel area to produce a large free space (18) which opens towards the heel. The footbed, sole layer and/or supporting layer can be made in one piece of the same material. Independent claim describes footwear such as sandal, shoe or boot with a sole with open heel area as above.
