The invention relates to a gripper (11) provided with means for receiving (17) a container (1) and means for operating a discharge mechanism (6,7) of the container (1), these operating means comprising a controllable, telescopic piston/cylinder combination (20) to be connected to the discharge mechanism. This telescopic piston/cylinder (20) combination can comprise a hydraulic cylinder (21), a hollow main piston (22) movable therein and at least one optionally hollow auxiliary piston (23) movable in the main piston (22).
