Abstract (en)

A bi-directional locking ring assembly is provided comprising a housing (132) and a gear (188) having a plurality of teeth. The gear (188) is coupled to the housing (132) to rotate in opposite directions about a rotational axis (198). A pin (152, 210) is also coupled to the housing (132) and has an apex (204, 216) configured to travel along a line (206, 218) that does not pass through the rotational axis (198) of the gear (188). The pin (152, 210) is configured to translate between (1) a disengaged position wherein the gear (188) is free to rotate, and (2) an engaged position wherein the apex (204, 216) resides between two of the plurality of teeth to prevent rotation of the gear (188) in both rotational directions. A pin (152, 210) actuator is coupled to the housing (132) and configured to engage the pin (152, 210) to selectively lock the pin (152, 210) in the engaged position.
