[origin: WO2007020282A2] The invention relates to a household appliance (18), particularly a washing machine (18), comprising a chamber (2), which is designed for treating an item (20) with a liquid and has a sump area (19) to which a pump device (6, 7, 17) for pumping liquid out of the chamber (2) is connected, and comprising an emitter (3) for producing an ultraviolet light. According to the invention, the emitter (3) is designed for irradiating the sump area (19) with the light. A drying device (9, 10, 11, 12) for drying the chamber (2) is also provided.
