According to the invention, the velvet edge (6) and the device for production thereof may be improved, by arranging a deflector body (22, 24) after the cutting tool (16) to at least one side in the material web (4a, 4b) at a separation from the warp threads (20a) for extraction in order to separate the warp threads (20a) for extraction from the remaining warp threads (20, 20b).
