[origin: WO2007025334A1] A screw cap for a wine bottle is provided which comprises a substantially circular top having a skirt projecting therefrom and a liner disposed adjacent to the top. The skirt has an internal thread portion adapted to engage with an external thread portion on the neck of said bottle. At least a portion of the liner is composed of a breathable material, and the top has at least one ventilation hole therein. The liner further comprises a flat ring-like membrane substantially impermeable to gas. The membrane adjacent to the breathable material substantially prevents the transfer of gaseous oxygen through the outer edge portion of the liner.
