Abstract (en)

In a sliding glass door system, having a stationary panel (11) and a movable panel (12) within a door casement (13), the improvement of incorporating an independent locking system centrally located in the second vertical stile (21) of the movable panel (12) remote from the conventional door lock (26) for this panel includes an operating lever (31) mounted in the stile (21) so that one end thereof is accessible, a vertical oriented locking bolt (32) connected to the lever (31) for reciprocal movement through manipulation of the lever, and a plurality of apertures (45) in the top track (42) of the casement (13) for the movable panel (12) whereby the lever (31) can be manipulated to insert the distal end of vertical locking bolt (32) into selected apertures (45) to lock the panel in selected intermediate positions or to remove the distal end the vertical locking bolt from such apertures (45) to release the panel. In the preferred embodiment the connection of the lever (31) to the locking bolt (32) and the bolt are located inside a channel in the associated stile (21) to maintain the aesthetics of the door. Typically the lever (31) is mounted in middle of the associated stile (21) for enhanced safety and convenience.
