[origin: EP1936165A2] The method involves detecting and comparing the revolution rates of the pump (16) and turbine (18) wheels, detecting a difference and, if the turbine wheel revolution rate exceeds that of the pump wheel and the difference is less than a threshold, adjusting the engine (12) torque depending on the difference and the rate of change of the pump wheel revolution rate. An independent claim is also included for a controller for controlling an internal combustion engine in a drive train.
