Vacuum pump comprises a housing with a gas inlet (9) and a gas outlet, a motor and a fan (6) with a fan motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a vacuum pump. Preferred Features: The housing has cooling ribs (8) and the fan is arranged so that air passes into the chamber between the cooling ribs. The housing has a section (3) containing the fan.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vakuumpumpe zur Erzeugung von Grob- oder Feinvakuum mit einem Gehäuse, welches Gaseinlass und Gasauslass aufweist, einem Motor und einem Lüfter. Um die Kühlung der Vakuumpumpe unabhängig vom Motor stellen zu können, wird vorgeschlagen, dass der Lüfter einen Lüftermotor aufweist.
