[origin: EP1938979A2] The bearer ring (10) includes a hard, chemically inert, electrically insulating, diamond-like layer that is formed on the outer surface of a metallic body. Preferably the diamond-like layer is harder than the body and has a thickness of 0.5 to 5 micrometers. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a bearer ring and cylinder utilizing method; and (2) a bearer ring wear reducing method.
