Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1939424A1] The engine has a cylinder (10) in which a piston (14) slides between a top dead center and a bottom dead center under an action of a connecting rod (20). A crankshaft (38) controls displacement of the piston under an effect of a cam follower (26) to vary a swept volume and a compression ratio of the engine. The cam follower is pivotingly mounted around an articulation axle (46) and displaced in translation along a direction. The cam follower is connected to the connecting rod and to the crankshaft respectively by two ends (24, 28) of the follower. An independent claim is also included for a method for varying a swept volume and a compression ratio.
