[origin: WO2006136860A1] An system and a method is disclosed for improving the use of energy. In particular, a system is disclosed which is capable of improving the use of renewable energy by selective storage and extraction in the form of thermal energy. The thermal energy may be generated by capturing thermal energy from the sun or by converting electrical energy from a wind turbine. It is then stored within a fluid, which can be directed into ground loops in boreholes, in arrangements of underground loops, or in a tank filled with a volume of fluid. The thermal energy is thereafter used as required to drive a heat pump which in turn generates hot water.
