[origin: WO2007054327A1] Disclosed is a holding device which is suitable especially for a medical optical instrument (108). Said holding device comprises a support arm (101) for accommodating a load. The support arm (101) is pivotally mounted on a holding unit (102) by means of a first revolute joint (103). The inventive holding device further comprises a means (120) for generating a longitudinal force which acts upon the support arm (101) in order to compensate load torque affecting the first revolute joint (103) of the support arm (101). The means (120) for generating a longitudinal force is pivotally mounted on the holding unit (102) and applies a force on a curved support (119) which is effectively connected to the support arm (101).
