[origin: WO2007054320A1] In order to monitor a data transmitter, e.g. a streaming server, which supplies transmit data in response to a request by a receiver, a testing device (12) analyzes data traffic at the input of the receiver or the output of the receiver, said testing device (12) being configured so as to determine whether data traffic lies below a minimum threshold. If data traffic drops below the minimum threshold, a connection activating device (14) initiates a new connection between the receiver and the data transmitter such that uninterrupted data transmitter monitoring is made possible also for unreliable point-to-point connections via the Internet.
