Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007035101A2] The invention relates to the addition of active charcoal and steel slag to contaminated materials such as, for example, industrial residues, dredged material, residues from the clean-up of soil and contaminated soil which in terms of leaching are critical for heavy metals and/or organic microcontaminants. Active charcoal and steel slag can be added to these materials as an additive (for example in situ) in order to reduce leaching and the risk of spreading of contaminants. Surprisingly it is found that as a result of the use of the invention the contaminants in, for example, contaminated soil or bottom ash, etc. are immobilised.
