Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007057115A1] The invention relates to a method or producing a segmented sabot (1) for projectiles having a subcalibre penetrator, which can be connected to a penetrator via a threaded (4) positive locking region and which comprises a plurality of sabot segments (8) arranged one next to the other in the circumferential direction. Said sabot segments (8) are separated in first sections (6) extending from the front end (5) of the sabot (1) in the axial direction by first joints (7) that are continuous in the radial direction and are at first integrally interconnected in a second section (9) that adjoins the first section (6), said second section (9) of the sabot (1) being provided with predetermined breaking points. Said breaking points are produced by producing axially extending second joints (11) in the second section (9), which second joints axially directly adjoin the first joints (7) and which extend from the outer surface (12) of the sabot (1) up to the positive locking region of the sabot (1), thereby forming a perforated threaded section. Once the penetrator is introduced into the sabot (1), the second joints (11) are closed with a vulcanized material by vulcanization.
