[origin: WO2007056066A2] Bioabsorbable, water-soluble hemostatic cellulose based gauze matrix structures are described, including one or more species of chitosan, etherized cellulose, nonionic surfactant, water-soluble polysaccharide hydrocolloid and/or gum. Approximately 85% to 95% deacetylated decrystallized chitosan, present in an amount from about 2% to about 15% by weight, is found to be particularly advantageous. Favorable properties are found related to rapid stoppage of bleeding and bioabsorbability, among other, properties .
