Abstract (en)
Footwear capable of two states: a first state that allows easy foot entry and exit ( Figure 1 ) and a second state ( Figure 4 ) whereby the foot is fastened into the piece of footwear and the transition between the two states may be achieved without the use of hands. The footwear comprises a hinge with a variable centre of rotation to change the shape of the sole (and the aperture in the upper into which the foot is inserted) and a lock-out mechanism to prevent the ends of the sole flexing upwardly beyond the normal Figure 4 position, which could cause discomfort.
