[origin: EP1953003A2] A marking appliance has a marking pencil (2) in a housing (4) and in which the marking pencil (2) has a broad hand-grip area (9) with a thin throat-area (10). A protective cap has an interior section for partly accommodating the hand-grip area (9) and a narrow interior section for the throat-area (10) of the marking pencil (2). A fixture clip is provided on the outside of the protective cap.
