[origin: EP1953106A2] The perforation unit (10) has a perforation cutter (19) supporting a perforation cutter cylinder (14), and a cutting cylinder (15) interconnected with the cutter cylinder. A sheet-shaped print substrate (12) is moved between the cutter cylinder and cutting cylinder for forming a transverse perforation. The cutter cylinder is driven by a drive such that circumferential speed of the cutter cylinder is approximately constant during opening of the cutter by the substrate. An acceleration ramp of the cutter cylinder is equal for all perforation procedures before each opening of the cutter. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a transverse perforation unit for a folding apparatus.
