[origin: EP1959713A1] The method involves determining whether a level of an input signal of a hearing aid exceeds a specific threshold value in a band range, where the acoustic signal is in a band range. The acoustic signal is shifted up or down in frequency if the threshold value is exceeded. The overall level of the input signal calculates the amplification of the acoustic signal. A hearing aid comprises a measuring device for a frequency-band-related measurement of the level of the input signal of the hearing aid. A comparator device compares a result returned by the measuring device with a threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a hearing aid.
