[origin: EP1961900A1] The device has a movably arranged closing element e.g. steel guide rail door (1), to open and close an opening in a marine ship, where the element is mechanically moved by an actuating element. The closing element is held in a closed position by correspondingly receiving in a frame under insertion of a seal. The closing element has a rack (9) and/or a lantern pinion, and a transmission unit (10) with a drive (11) e.g. electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor, is arranged in a region of the frame to move the closing element. The rack or the pinion is arranged within or on the closing element.
