[origin: DE102005061186A1] An automotive oil filter has a base fitting for an upright screw-fit filter cartridge. The base fitting has an external screw thread and the cartridge has an inner screw thread. The filter cartridge is linked to the base fitting via a passage that is open when the cartridge is installed, and closed when the cartridge is absent. Loosening the cartridge links the passage with an oil reservoir.
