Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007071863A1] The fuel injector (44, 66, 70, 74) for an internal combustion engine, particularly of the inwards or outwards opening needle injector type, comprises an injector body (12) which in particular forms a nozzle (16) ending in an injection orifice, means for closing off the said injection orifice of the said injector body, the said closing-off means comprising a vibrating pintle (24) ending in a head (26) for closing off the said injection orifice, return means (30) for returning the said closing-off means to the position in which they close off the said injection orifice, and means (36, 72) for setting the said pintle (24) and/or the said nozzle (16) into cyclic longitudinal vibration so as to open and close the injection orifice alternately. The fuel injector (44, 66, 70, 74) is notable in that it comprises selectively activatable means (46, 48) for immobilizing the said pintle (24) with respect to the said body (12).
