Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betreiben einer Kraftstoffpumpe eines Kraftfahrzeugs, wobei die Kraftstoffpumpe von einem Elektromotor derart angetrieben wird, dass die Kraftstoffpumpe zur Förderung von Kraftstoff in Richtung auf einen Verbrennungsmotor von einem bestromten Elektromotor in einer definierten Drehrichtung angetrieben wird. Erfindungsgemäß wird dann, wenn erkannt wird, dass die Kraftstoffpumpe blockiert ist, mindestens einmal für eine bestimmte Zeitdauer die Drehrichtung der Kraftstoffpumpe geändert.
