[origin: DE102005063083A1] The method involves detecting reflected radiation from a measuring device (10) from optically distinguishable characteristic structures. Spatial location of characteristic point of surface is determined from point of intersection of profile lines and a rim edge or other rotationally symmetric outlines at a wheel as well as wheel section of the body for position data. Interested chassis data is determined from the determined spatial location. The sizes of an object section after localization of the interested object structures are adapted to different vehicle types and rim sizes.
