[origin: DE102005062588A1] The method involves measuring the phase voltage (U ind) and the rotational speed (n) of a permanently excited electrical machine e.g. synchronous machine (1), and determining a magnet temperature of the electrical machine from the measured phase voltage and the rotational speed of the electrical machine. The phase voltage is measured in the no-load operation of the machine, where the peak value of the phase voltage is determined. The phase current of the electrical machine is limited when the magnet temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the magnet temperature of a permanently excited electrical machine.
