[origin: EP1972695A1] Production of an aluminum alloy comprises adding 9 wt.% silicon, a part of the magnesium used in the production of the alloy and a pre-alloy containing manganese, strontium and strontium and optionally iron and magnesium to the molten aluminum-based alloy. The allot contains (in wt.%) 9.5-11.5 silicon, 0.3-11.0 manganese, 0.1-0.6 magnesium, maximum 0.25 iron, maximum 0.15 titanium, maximum 0.01 zinc, maximum 0.05 copper, 5-300 ppm strontium and a balance of aluminum.
