[origin: WO2007090532A1] The invention relates to an internal combustion engine for operation alternately in spark-ignited four-stroke power cycle operation and with two-stroke engine braking operation, provided with a cam adjuster (23) for adjusting the cam profiles of both inlet valve (5) and outlet valve (7). On transition from power cycle operation to engine braking operation the cam adjuster device (23) actuates the exhaust valve (7) such that during the entire engine operating cycle, both in the expansion phase and the compression phase said valve is in a permanently open position.
