[origin: WO2008119087A1] The invention relates to a method for generating and/or verifying a security imprint which is imaged onto or in a printing medium comprising a base material and a distinct piece of data (4) about the medium, by means of an at least partially visible image containing print data (61). The data (4) about the medium is produced by using characteristics created during production and/or structures of at least the base material in a random process. The image to be printed is produced by combining and encrypting the print data (61) and the production-dependent data (4) about the medium. The invention further relates to a device for processing an image (29) of a secure imprint, and to an information carrier.
