[origin: WO2007132356A2] A filter element (6) adapted to be incorporated into a filter cigarette (2) comprises filter material (8), particles of a magnetized adsorbent (9), and at least one magnetic substrate (10). During smoking of a cigarette (2) comprising the filter element (6), the at least one magnetic substrate (10) can filter (i.e., magnetically attract and trap) the magnetized adsorbent particles (9) or fragments thereof within the filter element (6).
