Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007122115A1] The invention relates to a device for measuring the volume flow rate or mass flow rate of a medium which penetrates a measuring tube (3) in the direction of the axis (3) thereof. Said device comprises a magnetic system (6, 7) which generates a magnetic field (B) that penetrates the measuring tube (2) and extends substantially perpendicular to the axis (3) of the measuring tube (2), at least one measuring electrode (4; 5) that is coupled to the medium (11), a reference component (17) which lies at a defined potential and is connected to a resistor (20), and a control/evaluation unit (8) that supplies data on the volume flow rate or mass flow rate of the medium (11) in the measuring tube (2) based on the measuring voltage induced in the at least one measuring electrode (4, 5). In order to be able to quickly detect a malfunction of the measuring instrument (1) or a component (17) thereof, a measuring device (21) is provided which supplies data on a current (I) that flows through the resistor (20).
