Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007128611A1] The invention relates to a shock wave head (10) for a shock wave treatment apparatus, wherein the shock wave head (10) has at least one first shock wave source (11) for the emission of shock waves and a focusing device (14) for focusing the shock waves on a treatment zone (K) of an object under investigation (U). By the shock wave head (10) having at least one opening (17), in which at least one replaceable module device (30, 34, 35) for treating and/or investigating an object under investigation (U) can be arranged, a shock wave head can be provided which offers a plurality of investigation and/or treatment possibilities given a compact design. The invention further relates to a method for the fragmentation of a fragmentation object (K), which is arranged in an object under investigation (U), by means of shock waves and for controlling this fragmentation, wherein at least one shock wave is emitted (101), by means of a first shock wave source, which is arranged on or within a shock wave head (10), focused (102) by means of a focusing device (14) onto the fragmentation object (K) and injected (103) into the object under investigation (U). By the fragmentation of the fragmentation object (K) being controlled (104) by means of a module device (30, 34, 35), which is arranged replaceably on the shock wave head (10), during an interaction between the at least one shock wave and the fragmentation object (K), a method can be provided which allows for improved control of a fragmentation process or a shock wave treatment.
