[origin: GB2436552A] A packaging machine and method provide for packaging primary packages, eg filled bottles or cans, into cartons (in secondary packaging section 10); assembling the cartons into groups of spaced columns 22, 24, 26 (in assembly section 12); bringing the columns of a group together (in batch assembly section 14) and disposing them on a tray (in tray-loading section 16); and off-loading the trays onto a stack on a pallet (in pallet loading section 18). Sections 10, 12 and 14 may be parts of a continuously moving conveyor system and each batch 30 of cartons may be lifted by vacuum suction cups for loading onto a tray.
