[origin: WO2007145699A2] The chassis with retractable wheels (10) for luggage (19) or a luggage carrier includes a housing (12) and an internal skeletal structure (36) that is slidably received in the housing (12). The wheels (14) are deployed by axially sliding the chassis sled (36) within the housing (12) so that the housing' (12) remains stationary as the chassis sled (36) is pulled upwardly within the housing (12). As the internal skeletal structure (36) moves upwardly, wheel lever arms attached to the internal skeletal structure (36) contact a pair of rods extending from the stationary housing (12). The rods cause the wheel lever arms to pivot and thereby push the wheels (14) outwardly as the internal skeletal structure (12) moves upwardly. The wheels (14) are retracted by pushing the chassis sled (36) downwardly within the housing (12).
