Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007124728A3] A mask (1) for the electroplating of the outer surface of a body, for example a piston for an internal combustion engine, with a process chamber (3), by means of which the outer surface to be coated is covered, and into which feed openings (7) and discharge openings for an electrolyte containing the layer material open is proposed. At the front, the process chamber (3) can be closed by the outer surface to be coated and on the rear side it is closed by a sheet-like anode which is connected via an electrode to the plus pole of a DC voltage source, with the body being able to be connected to the minus pole of the DC voltage source. Uniform distribution of the electrolyte and thus the layer material to be applied is obtained by the mask (1) consisting of a rubbery elastic, yielding polymer and by a rigid piping system which opens via feed openings (7) and discharge openings into the process chamber (3) and has connections (4, 5) for a vacuum pump and connections (6, 10) connected to a container for the electrolyte being cast into the mask (1).
