[origin: EP2028279A2] Treating a skin material, comprises treating the skin material with a phenol group containing tanning agent for enabling a reaction between the hydroxyl group with the aluminum-ions to the aluminum-ion complex formation and hydrogen bridging on the different side chains of the polypeptide chain of the skin, and binding aluminum ions primarily on the carboxyl group of the polypeptide chain of the skin, with the result of an irreversible tanning, similarly the chrome-tanning, where the aluminum treatment is carried out at least partially after the fat treatment.
