[origin: WO2007144700A1] An actuating device for use in combination with at least one mechanism for position adjustment of parts of chairs, arm-chairs or the like. The device comprises at least one shaft (2), which defines a longitudinal axis (X), and has an inner end portion (9) for connection to the adjustment mechanism, and which is integrally mounted to at least one control knob (3) designed to be turned by a user about the axis (X) to actuate the adjustment mechanism. The device comprises means (10) for controlling said knob (3), which are adapted to selectively lock the latter in a first rest position proximal to the inner end portion (9) of the shaft (2) and to slideably move the knob (3) from the first proximal rest position to a second operating position distal thereto.
