[origin: EP2034061A1] The device (10) has a cutter (12.1) provided on a cutter support (11.1). A cutter (12.2) is provided on a movable and guidable cutter support (11.2) e.g. lever arm. A drive cooperates with the moveable cutter support, and contains a pneumatic actuator e.g. rotor/cylinder unit (14) or pneumatic rotary drive, and a spring (15) e.g. compression spring, to separate a weft thread (2) inserted or incorporated in a shed. The spring is stretchable by the pneumatic actuator, and the cutters are closable by the force effect of the spring. An independent claim is also included for a method for separating a weft thread.
