[origin: WO2008000200A1] The invention relates to a method and corresponding device for secure operation of a switch unit (1), comprising at least one main contact (4) which may be switched on or off and at least one switch actuator (2) with a moving armature (5). The main contact (4) comprises fixed contact pieces and a moving contact bridge (41). The armature (5) acts on the contact bridge (41) for switching on and off by means of a contact slider (3), such that the corresponding main contact (4) is closed or opened. The contact slider (3) comprises at least parts of a force and/or displacement controlled trigger mechanism. The method comprises the following steps: a) recognition of exceeding a force value and/or a given displacement run (dX) on switching off and b) interrupting further operation of the switch unit (1) by triggering the trigger mechanism when the above are exceeded.
